Nigeria's Super Eagles survived a late scare to defeat Tunisia 3-2 in a pulsating Group C encounter at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, booking their place in the Round of 16 with a game to spare at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The three-time champions dominated much of the match, with Victor Osimhen opening the scoring late in the first half with a powerful header. Captain Wilfred Ndidi doubled the lead early in the second period from an Ademola Lookman corner, before Lookman himself made it 3-0 with a clinical finish.
Tunisia, who had looked second-best for large spells, mounted a dramatic comeback in the closing stages. Montassar Talbi pulled one back, and Ali Abdi converted a controversial penalty after the ball struck Bright Osayi-Samuel's arm, setting up a tense finale.
However, Nigeria held firm through added time to claim a vital victory.
The win sees Nigeria top Group C on six points and confirm their progression as group winners, while Tunisia remain on three points and must avoid defeat in their final match to advance.
The other Group C fixture on Matchday 2 (Uganda vs Tanzania) ended in a 1-1 draw in a match full of drama, penalties, and late goals. Both teams remain on the brink of elimination in Group C of AFCON 2025.
Nigeria will wrap up their group campaign against Uganda, while Tunisia face Tanzania in their final group match.
